6 years ago about 20 families around the Sacramento area started the service of providing about 100 sandwich bags to underprivileged families and children every Saturday of each month. These families graciously gave Sai Seva Sadan the opportunity to host and continue this project at a larger scale.
The PB&J snack bags are given primarily to children during the weekend where they typically get only 2 meals per day. For some kids these Snack bags provide a School day snack. With this service we are helping our future generation become more focused on their school work without the worry of their next meal or snack. We also provide separate bags for children that may have Peanut Allergy. Once the sandwich bags are made, volunteers from Sai Seva Sadan will deliver the bags to an organization in Sacramento.
Since this project started, over 17,000 snack bags have been provided to the kids of the shelter!
Serving lunch to seniors & helping with house/yard work at the SAFE House.
• Volunteers sign up to bring home cooked or store bought food & serve in the shelter
• Help with the setting & cleaning of the place after the food service
***** Due to Covid restrictions, for the time being we are delivering groceries to the SAFE House on a weekly basis instead of preparing lunch for the house. Volunteers signup to put in online order for groceries to be delivered.
St. John's Shelter & TheGatheringInn Dinner Service
3rd Saturday and 1st Sunday of every month
Every month the center serves 5 course dinner at these locations and Sai Seva Sadan is asked to assist. We are always looking for volunteers to help serve and donate food. Each month an excel signup sheet will be distributed with the needed items. The project helps serve dinner for about 100 people at each of the locations.
Help teach computer lessons such as Microsoft Office, navigating the internet etc. to women in St. John's Women Shelter.
Most of us are computer savvy enough to teach basic computer skills to individuals that don't have the opportunity. With the computer classes, the adult students at St. John Woman's Shelter are able to apply for jobs, apply for rental homes. These skills give students the self-confidence to better their lives and hope for a better future.
This simple Computer Class with the help from you will help them stand on their own.
The objective of the project is to help convert scanned copies of books to digital format which will feed into an audio reader and also for braille conversion to help provide access of print material to the visually impaired. This is a project we can sit and do at your convenience in terms of time and place.
